Both for the kommun vote - really, my kommun? really? after that much corruption you decided what Moderaterna needed was to become the biggest individual party in the area? - and for the national vote, where no-one has a majority and Sverigedemokraterna have got their disgusting little paws into the Riksdag. With 5.7% of the votes. Wagh.

So, you know, happy fucking Monday. Let's see what they can come up to deal with this and if it will completely depress me. I know the Alliance is trying to flirt with Miljöpartiet, but...

The situation is so fucking depressing - why Sweden, why!? We really didn't need a racisit party in the riksdag, that place was bas enough as it were. When I look at the result in the different kommuns here in Skåne I feel like I need to more north NOW. Jokkmokk had excellent numbers =) But really, fucking grim.

Yeah. I think the most hopeful possibility we've been able to come up with is that it might force the other parties to actually confront these issues properly, as it feels like they've been a bit too good at ignoring the whole tangle that is immigration politics. And that Sverigedemokraterna will fuck themselves over now people can get a proper look at them.

The whole thing still seems so unclear right now though... but grim, yeah.

This situation makes me so sad. Sweden, I was supposed to escape to you when things get fucked up in Finland! If a racist party can get in power in Sweden then it doesn't bode well for the rest of us at all.

I read on the UK news about Sverigedemokraterna getting in - it seems to be happening across a lot of countries at the moment, unfortunately. Sweden never really occurred to me as an obvious place to follow suit, though... :-/

I don't know well what the political mindset of many people is like there, but after the BNP won a few constituencies here, the backlash from sensible people was so big that they lost every seat again in the next election. So it's not impossible that they'll be jeered and kicked out at the next chance!

Mm... I feel like what really prompted the backlash against the BNP was actually in part the fact that they got included in things like Question Time, which gave people a chance to get a really good look at what they were voting for - I know that people argue against acknowledging those kinds of groups on principle, but maybe it's better to confront them than just hoping they'll go away. That said, Sverigedemokraterna have actually put more effort into brushing up their image than the BNP have thus far managed, which is the worrying thing about them. Their leader looks more like a politician than Nick Griffin will ever manage and can talk in a way which sounds almost reasonable if you don't listen to the words.

It doesn't really surprise me that they're in, tbh, though it does disappoint & depress me. Like you say, the trend is there right across Europe right now, including very strongly in Denmark, which is not culturally identical to Sweden but is also not completely unrelated...
