1. Tattoos. Check out the 'abstract' section, I am in so much awe. I've been thinking again lately about what I might want from a tattoo, and that's certainly a step in the right direction for my thought process. There's also one under 'modern' which uses negative space, and while the design isn't something I would personally want that negative-space idea is interesting. (I am as yet uninked because I take the design decisions involved Very Very Seriously.)


2. We have watched 11 episodes of Sailor Moon and been impressed by how little has happened. You guys, not only is it monster of the week, it is the same monster every week. They almost talked about the plot a couple of times but then they decided not to. So uh, maybe we're taking crystal's advice after all and skipping forward some before we snap. (It's a conflict, you know - we're kind of obsessive in a completist kind of way, and so don't want to miss things, but on the other hand.............. uhhh...............)


3. I seem to have spent last night in a series of different and largely unconnected dreams about gender identity. I think I identified differently in all of them, basically, and it was always an issue in some way.

Dear brain, please lay off. I spend enough time worrying about how to present myself on any given day when I'm awake.

ahhhh i've seen her work before! (just the same stuff as on the site, heh) ah, so breath-taking. also insanely expensive, $300/hour. >_< but yeah, some gorgeous stuff. i would definitely book her if i could ever afford it.

(Unrelated: For some reason last night I had a dream that I was working topless in the bookstore where I used to work. Not in a 'embarrassing naked dream' kind of way, just, you know, topless.)

Hee. I'm enjoying it, in a really ridiculous kind of way. This afternoon we went on a quest for episodes with plot and actually found some! OMG!

I knowwwwwwwwww! I think the more commonly used styles in western tattooing are just not my thing at all, and I'm always extremely hesitant about using stuff from other cultures because omg apropriation AND missing symbolic meanings left right and centre, combination of fail. BUT THIS. I could totally have this kind of stuff on my body.

*deeply amused* Yeah, see, you have to fast forward past all the monster fights. All of them. You won't miss a thing.

Well, except you might be amused by the priest-turned-monster, somewhere in the second half of season one, because there's some very entertaining puns and world play going on. But the rest of them? Fast forward. It compresses the story marvelously.

Agreed. Sailor Moon really is best watched on VHS I've realized, because then it's so easy to fast-forward. On DVD all the bad animation bits are too visible and you can't skim the fights and transformations as smoothly

If you want, I can give you a list as of which episodes in the first season are plot-relevant? There are a bunch and the final is pretty nice, but it draaags a lot, yes.

Here we go, some spoilers but it's not like the story is that unpredictable anyway...

Ep 1 - Sailor Moon is introduced
(Ep 3 - iirc I like this one a lot)
Ep 8 - Sailor Mercury is introduced
(Ep 9 - I think I liked it a lot when I first saw it? Also, more about Ami)
Ep 10 - Sailor Mars appears
Ep 12 & 13 - Jadeite is defeated (also, I like the monster in ep 12. And the girls go on a "date")
Ep 14 - Nephrite appears
(Ep 19 - Love letters and double-gangers. Semi-important and pretty good)
(Ep 21 - Anime studio injokes and the victims of the week are a pair of female friends. Completely plot-irrelevant but a bit cute)
Ep 23-24 Nephrites end. Really good episodes for season 1
Ep 25 - Sailor Jupiter appears
(Ep 28 - not that important, but a sweet victim of the week and some foreshadowing)
(Ep 30 - backstory for Rei)
(Ep 32 - Some Moon backstory and good comedy bits. Tuxedo Umino!)
Ep 33-34 Double episode, Sailor Venus introduced. Important
Ep 35 - Plot-relevant. Zoisite ends
Ep 37 - Very funny ep
(Ep 42 - Sailor V's backstory, bit of a different feel. Good)
Ep 43 - 46 Basically the final, watch the entire bit. It's worth it

Also, when you come to season two, watch the first episode and then skip ALL the episodes with the tree aliens. Possible you can watch their end, but it's just pointless filler

I second this. Those episodes aren't really relevant. The second arc of season two is much more interesting. My favorite male villain in this arc.

Yeah, the anime is really, really episodic until almost the very end of the first arc. It gets a little more interesting, but basically in re-watches I just skip all the filler eps and go straight to the storyline. Only I don't really like any of the characters in the first arc except for maybe some of the villains and evil!Endymion (because he's not wearing that awful green jacket wtf). But! Lesbians! Genderbenders! Don't give up.
