The pelvic pitting thing is basically really unclear, above all - I haven't seen a satisfactory explanation of why it sometimes shows up, i.e. what it actually does depend upon. BUT it's also possible that there's been more developments in pinning down what makes it appear or not appear since I stopped working in archaeology (longer ago than two years).
