As a kid I used to take big snails like that home with me and attempt to keep them as pets. Which usually meant putting them in a cardboard box in the garden that they then crawled out of over night. :P

I don't think I ever met a snail that big as a kid. We just had the little brown ones.

Interesting! Maybe it's a continental variety of snail.
